The Hampden-Sydney Photograph Collection is an iterative, artificial collection featuring myriad photos of people, places, and things associated with the College, from its founding in 1775 until the present. Much of the collection is unprocessed, and most of the photos are unidentified.

Abstract
"Lt. Nathaniel E. Veneble, C.S. Marine Corps. Born at "Scott-Greene," Prince Edward Co., VA., December 2, 1836. Non-graduating member, Class of 1856, U.S. Military Academy. A.B., Hampden-Sydney College, 1856. 1st Sgt., Co. I, 23d VA. Inf., Sept. 23, 1861. Pvt., Co. D, 25th Bn. VA. Inf. (Richmond City Bn.) Spet. 1, 1862; promoted corporal. Oct. 14, 1862, discharged Oct. 21, 1862 to accept comission as a 2d lieutenant, C.S. Marine Corps; promoted 1st lieutenant, Jan. 14, 1864. Served with Marine Corps to close of the war. He married Emilie Crenshaw Miller on April 13, 1870. Died Leesburg, Lake Co., Fla., on May 13, 1893."
