The Manuscript by Jane Reid Venable: “Book of Record of the Reids and Alexanders and Others,” undated, contains a manuscript that Jane Reid Venable was working on, documenting the family lineage and basic history of some of the prominent families in Prince Edward County. Not included in the collection are listed dates of the creation of the manuscript or sources/background information on how the information was obtained.

Biographical History
Jane Stuart Reid Venable was born in 1800 and died in 1834. She was the daughter of Andrew F Reid (1751-1837) and Magdalene McDowell (1755-1838). She married Samuel W. Venable (1797-1856) who was the grandson of Nathaniel Venable (1733-1804). Together, Jane and Samuel had several children, most notable being Major Andrew Reid Venable, Jr. (1832-1909).
Elizabeth C. Eggleston was the daughter of Joseph Dupuy Eggleston II (1867-1953), the 14th president of Hampden-Sydney. Elizabeth was born in 1899 and died in 1995. Elizabeth and Jane were distant relatives through marriage.
